HE’S best known for shooting to fame in the Nineties for his hedonistic partying and years of drug abuse.
Brandon Block was hoping for a new and improved return to the spotlight after joining this year’s contestants on Celebrity Big Brother.
However he left the show early saying he didn’t feel himself in the house.
At the height of his career, the DJ held residencies at clubs in London and Leeds and played many seasons in Ibiza.
His talent saw him be awarded the “Caner of the Year” prize three times by Muzik magazine.
But here are seven lesser known facts about the DJ who once had water thrown over him by Ronnie Wood when he stormed the stage at the 2000 Brit Awards.
He was earning £15,000 a night at the height of his career
Brandon quickly rose to fame in the Eighties and Nineties as a talented producer playing to thousands of clubbers.
When he was in most demand, he would earn up to £15,000 a night and would be flown between gigs by helicopter.
Years of partying and drug abuse eventually caught up with him, however, and he started to lose work due to missing gigs because of his habit.
He got tuberculosis after drugs destroyed his immune system
Not only did his £1,000-a-day drug addiction cause him to start missing jobs, but also started to weaken his immune system.
The DJ fell ill with tuberculosis and was forced to spend time in hospital, although still tried to get his friends smuggle drugs in for him.
He told Loaded magazine: “I was so desperate to score that I would bite the fingers off the end of the anti-contamination gloves
[rubber gloves worn by patients to prevent the spread of the infection] so my friends could pass wraps of coke in through the holes for me.”
The things he is most looking forward to be without in the house
The DJ is said to be going into the Celebrity Big Brother house in an attempt to re-launch his career.
He joked that was looking forward to spending time without his mobile phone during his stint on the reality show.
He also said that his biggest fear in the house would be a dirty toilet.
He has a tell-all book
There is no question that Brandon has had a colourful career, and The Life and Lines of Brandon Block documents the highs and lows he experienced along the way.
The book reveals his spiralling drug addiction which, at its peak, saw him take a daily dosage of an ounce of coke.
It also shares his health battles, and the moment his doctor told him he had two weeks to live if he didn’t stop taking drugs.
Celebrity Big Brother isn’t his first TV appearance
Over the years Brandon has taken part in a number of TV shows, many of them as a celebrity guest star.
These include Celebrity Fear Factor and Celebrity Extreme Detox, and he has provided the entertainment for a guest on Come Dine With Me.
He has also appeared on reality television show Trust Me – I’m a Holiday Rep, which showed celebrities working as guides for tour group Olympic Holidays.
He got his first club residency in Ealing in London
His DJ career started from an early age when he and his friend asked the landlord if they could jump on the decks in a pub after the DJ failed to show.
From there, he ended up getting his first club residency at ZigZag at the Broadway Boulevard in Ealing, London.
He went on to play at most of the big London clubs, including the Ministry of Sound, Turnmills and Miss Moneypenny’s.
The first album he ever bought
The DJ has spun thousands of tracks during his career, but revealed the first ever album he bought was Real Thing’s Can You Feel the Force.
He early influences are early Disco, 80s Hip Hop, rappers and Jazz Funk.
Speaking to the Cargo Collective he said: “I have been able to map my life by the music I listened to, and the music I played. Music is a memory trigger.”
