A new No Man’s Sky content update could be right around the corner

A new No Man’s Sky content update could be a matter of a few weeks away, as even the most diehard fans of the game begin to grow impatient at a seeming lack of new things to do in the game.

Many of the games core fanbase believe that the frequency of the internal updates could be leading to another big update.

In fact, an opinion piece by Forbes gaming writer Paul Tassi shows that there are some sections of the community willing to pay for added No Man’s Sky DLC, despite that being something of a stick used to beat the game on its original release.

Thankfully, it might not come to that, because new content could be just around the corner.

It took four months between the games launch and the release of the November Foundation update, so if Hello Games were working to a similar turnaround time, it could be March when we see new content added.

And the fact is we already know that there is something in the pipeline at Hello Games, after a number of datafiles from the No Man’s sky Foundation update hinted at what’s come to next.

Data miners found extensive evidence of land vehicles in the No Man’s Sky Foundation update.

“According to various data files, the vehicles will have vertical boosters, a jet engine and mounted guns; all of which will be upgradable using existing in-game technologies,” wrote Power Up Gaming at the time.

“In order to receive an ATV, it seems, players must build a specialist vehicle terminal and hire a mechanic, before completing a number of missions to source the components required to construct a buggy.”

According to various dialogue options discovered, the hybrid vehicle will support the following upgrades and abilities (via PowerUpGaming):

  • ATV Jetpack Alpha: A gas-propelled vehicular jetpack system that can be fitted to the Hybrid ATV, to allow short bursts of flight.
  • ATV Jetpack Beta: An upgrade to the vehicle jetpack system that increases the maximum altitude and flight range of the unit, improving the versatility of the Hybrid ATV.
  • ATV Jetpack Gamma: A further upgrade for the vehicle jetpack system, maximising the altitude and flight range of the unit, and rendering the Hybrid ATV suitable for even the most extreme environment.
  • ATV Tune-up Alpha: Improved torque and acceleration, toughened shocks, and a longer range between refuelling for the Hybrid ATV.
  • ATV Tune-up Beta: Improved air intakes for higher horsepower, ECU tuning, a strengthened chassis, and a longer range between refuelling for the Hybrid ATV.
  • ATV Tune-up Gamma: A high-flow exhaust system for added speed and acceleration, active traction tyres, and maximum range between refuelling for the Hybrid ATV.
  • ATV Storage: A proximity-locked, secure parking facility for the Hybrid ATV personal transport.
  • ATV Photon Cannon Alpha: Standard ATV-mounted weapons system, comprising twin small-round photon cannons with a dedicated power source.
  • ATV Photon Cannon Beta: Improved sighting and recoil dampening, and a longer charge capacity for the Hybrid ATV’s mounted weapons system.
  • ATV Photon Cannon Gamma: Improved firing rate, larger capacity and maximised photonic charge for the Hybrid ATV’s mounted weapons system.

However, since this was discovered in January, none of the rumoured content has come to the game.

No Man’s Sky (PS4)

Though unlikely, iDigital Times believes that the announcement of this next update could come from an unlikely event in March.

“The game’s lead programmer, Sean Murray, will be giving a panel at the 2017 Game Developer’s Conference in March.

“The lecture, titled Building Worlds Using Maths, takes place on March 3 and is described as a deep dive into the algorithm that generates No Man’s Sky’s 18 quintillion planets.

“Logic dictates that Hello might want a new version of the game to show off during that presentation.”
