Steven Finn puts Ashes hopes on hold in order to lead Middlesex´s charge – WBNews

Steven Finn knows a good start to the County Championship season with Middlesex could bring with it an England place but he is not contemplating the Ashes just yet.

The 27-year-old fast bowler looks to have been usurped in the pecking order by Mark Wood, Jake Ball and Liam Plunkett, while Tom Curran and Tom Helm are also in the running for international recognition.

But Finn is not concerned by the competition for places on this winter’s tour and is simply focusing on starting well with the 2016 county champions.

As a new county season dawns, I’m throwing it back to the last day of last summer. Fingers crossed this season brings smiles as big as this ????????

“If I look too far ahead it’s a bad thing so Australia isn’t on my radar,” he told the Independent. “If I start well with Middlesex then we have a county championship to retain.

“Bowling well for Middlesex is what’s going to get me in the England picture, nothing else.

“If you think about it, I played in the last England ODI and was on the last Test tour. Of course I am very much hoping to be in the England mix.

“This early part of the summer is a big challenge for me to show that I can do it and keep doing it regularly so I am looking forward to getting out there with Middlesex.”
