A man has slit his throat outside a temple in a bid to offer his head to a headless Hindu deity. Paramilitary trooper Sanjay Nut, 45, was seen inside the Chhinnamasta temple in Rajrappa, India, before he emerged and took out a huge knife. He then cut his throat near the main entrance and bled to death on the spot in front of horrified onlookers. Witnesses said the father-of-four had been worshipping and his actions were “an act of self-sacrifice” and he did it in front of the Chhinnamasta idol. The temple, a pilgrimage site that draws Hindu devotees from the region, is dedicated to Goddess Chhinnamasta, who appears headless holding a dagger in one hand and severed head in the other. A source in India said: “He was first seen around the temple complex on Monday. “On Tuesday morning, he worshiped Chhinnamasta idol and then started doing the rounds of the temple. “As he reached close to the main entrance to the temple he fished out huge knife and slit his throat with it in an act of self-sacrifice. “The incident was reported to police who immediately secured the spot.” Locals said Mr Nut, from Buxar in Bihar was posted in Hazaribagh as a Central Reserve Police Force personnel before his death.
